Tom, Fred and I left Denver around 4:30PM-MDT on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. We had spent the day watching the events in New York and needed to get away from the insanity of it all. We sped east on I-70 and didn't turn back. After a nice dinner in Limon with my niece Sarrah we continued on.  We played lots of music and sang lots of sounds on our 10-hour trek to Winfield.  We chose "Piece of Shit Car" by Adam Sandler as our Winfield 2001 theme song. (What a mistake that was... you'll find out later why). We arrived in Winfield around 5:00AM-CDT. Drove around some trying to find a parking space (this place was packed already). We grabbed a tarp and our sleeping bags and crashed for a few hours (not long enough for Fred though).

It didn't take long for us to set up camp. And being Winfield it wasn't long before instruments were broken out. Fred and Steven Haver jam while Julian relaxes.
Pegleg and I kept in constant contact over the year.
He would update me on things happening in Kansas (mostly how hot and how dry it was) and send me photos of his fishing trips with Uncle Randy. I'd let him know how things were doing in Boston.

This may have been our first day at the River Rat Camp but Greg and Gail "Rosie Rat" Tucker had been in camp over a week. Greg spent many hours getting ready for the Rat Camp festivities. Here he is getting the prize buttons ready for the Band Scramble, Costume Contest & Story Contest.

This year's Rat Camp theme came from the movie
O'Brother Where Art Thou?

O River Where Art Thou?

River Rat was not to be seen at Winfield 30. We are looking forward to his return at Winfield 31.
